Day 2 : 5 May 2013 Phetburi - Khoa Wang, Wat Naphom, Dessert shop

The next day, we leave for Khoa Wang , the royal palace build during King Rama IV. The king inspired to built the palace as western country as in Europe.

Labor, influent and funding of this Palace

The palace was built by labor of Lao Pruan (ลาวพรวน). It took three years to finish it. The architecture design is combination of  neo classic , Chinese , Thai , Persia and Cambodia. It is international place, isn’t it. The King use money which collects from palm tax to build the palace.


The layout of Palace
The palace consist of three parts, temple, resident area, and palace. Temple is called Wat Phakeaw which is the same name as in Bangkok. Idea of this palace as from Hindu Cosmology as Meru mount which has center or palace is epicenter of the universe. The Palace section has Throne hall , reception room and royal resident area. The less is living area for the followers of the King.

Monkey in the Palace
This palace has a lot of monkey and everywhere you go you will see beware of monkey. We took short way to go up by cable car so it was not bad to interface with monkey. However, I saw a few. Those monkey was well behave so it must be train. Lucky me!

King Rama IV

King Rama IV was interested in astronomy and astrology. There are observatory  that he used. The king visited this place when he was ordain as Buddhist monk for 27 years. He decided to built the palace here and came here fore leisure and observation the star and westerner troop. The colonization was a big issue during his period so this palace has been use for multi-function.

We spend for hour walk around and we were lucky to have local guide who explain us so well about history of this palace.

Wat Naphom

Wat Naphom is our next destination. This place has abbot who try to preserve traditional way of making palm sugar. The abbot come and we offer sankatan for him ( utensil for Buddhist monk)

We taste palm sap. It is sweet and hot cook from oven. We add ice and enjoy the taste of this cool drink.

Koaw Chae
Then, we were serve Koaw Chae. It is special snack . It originate from royal recipe. And it is very famous for this area. Their are streamm rice, fragrant water, loog krabei, chaipo chuam and pla sent cooked in sugar.

Koaw chare is dessert serve for summer to help. It help to cool down the hot weather. Now, it became rare dessert to find.

After this , we continue to pad thai tana for lunch.
